October is Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month

posted in: Healthy & Fit Over 40 | 0

One month, Two Causes, Same Purpose…. To Survive.  These are two significant matters impacting our communities and by raising awareness and connecting individuals to resources and the proper information, we can make a change.

  1.  You can work on prevention of breast cancer by eating better, exercising more, stop smoking and drink less alcohol.
  2. If you over 40, never miss a mammogram.  If your under 40 and something doesnt feel right or there are breast changes, don’t wait, go see your doctor and get it checked.  Early detection saves lives.
  3. Don’t get scared by all the myths.  All cases are different.  Seek the advice of a licensed professional so that you will have all of the facts.

If you know of anyone involved in a domestic violence situation, please refer them to the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1-800-799-7233.  Its Free 24/7 and its confidential.  Spread the word… Let’s help each other…

Lastly, If you are involved in a fundraiser, do your research and check that the organization you are supporting is legitimate.  Find out if the money is going to support breast cancer programs, how much of the money is going towards that, what will they do with the funds.  There are many organizations that put a pink ribbon on the website but most of the money collected goes towards paying salaries so again, do your research.
